Lake Havasu Fishing Report
12/10/11
There has been a pretty fair striper bite
in the south end of the lake around Havasu Springs and
around the island and Black Rock regions. This is where
the shad are concentrated and the fish are nice quality,
running from six to 10 pounds. Most of the action is in
the morning on Rat-L-Trap or similar lures. Some anglers
are trolling umbrella rigs with four baits. The
largemouth and smallmouth bass are also up in wolf packs
chasing the shad, and the only action has been on
shad-like cranks, but the bite can be pretty good during
peak activity periods. Redear are getting little
pressure, but the best bet is to fish in 20 to 30 feet
of water in the bays with nightcrawlers or go up river
and fish grassy backwaters with ‘crawlers under a bobber.
11/20/11
Fair
topwater early in the morning on the bass and then decent action on the
outside edges of weed beds the rest of the day. Senkos, plastics, and
deep-running cranks are getting both smallmouth and largemouth. The striper
action has been very hit and miss. There have been daily boils as the fish
push shad to the surface, usually early and late in the day, and then the
stripers are deep and trollers dragging shad-like cranks or spoons in deeper
water or drifting anchovies are getting some fish. The redear have slowed with
spotty action, but some fish still showing in 15 to 30 feet of water, mostly
on nightcrawlers.
